Sessions & groups
in Burnhill, Rutherglen

There's always something on at the High Backs. Whether you're looking for something for the kids, something creative for yourself, a chance to get outside, a bit of company, or just something new to try - there's likely a social group here for you.

 

We welcome people from Burnhill and beyond. Some sessions run on a fixed schedule and you can just turn up. Others need a quick booking in advance - you can do that via our contact form or by messaging us on Facebook.

 

Everyone is welcome, whatever your experience level and whatever brings you through the gate. We'd love to see you here. 

Regular sessions

These groups run on a fixed schedule. Just turn up.

Monday Family Hub

Every Monday, 4.30-6.30pm

A weekly after school club for kids of all ages  - games, activities, and good fun outdoors when the weather allows, and inside when it doesn't. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Burnhill MENding Minds

Every Tuesday, 7-8pm

 A men's social and activity group meeting every Tuesday - a supportive space for men to talk, listen, and connect. Run in partnership with the Burnhill MENding Minds group.

Knitting Group

Every second Tuesday, 11am-12.30pm

Coffee Afternoon

Last Wednesday of every month, 12-2pm

Come along for cake, a cuppa and a chat - whether you're an experienced knitter or picking up needles for the first time, everyone is welcome.

Pop in to our monthly social for a cuppa, a blether, and some good company. Just come as you are and stay as long as you like. There's always something homemade on the table.

Cooking Class

Mondays 5.30-7.30pm for 6 weeks starting 5th October 2026

A new cooking class led by Margaret will run for 6 weeks from the 5th October 2026. Margaret is always bringing delightful treats to the High Backs - so expect to learn (some of) her secrets to making the best and heartiest dishes.

Summer Lunch Club

Ran summer 2026, watch this space for 2027!

In summer 2026, there was free nutritious lunches for families, with daily activities including crafts, games, outdoor play, and a final summer party. Open to all ages. This programme was supported by Cash for Kids funding.

Community Larder

Available when stocked - follow us on Facebook for updates.

Fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, and other groceries - free for anyone to take. Just bring a bag.

Soulful Seasons

Monthly on Thursdays, 5.30-7pm

Inside Outside Breakfast Club

Ages 10+. Ran from 13th–17th July 2026. 2027 dates tbc

A creative and nurturing social group for women, with a different themed activity each month. This group is currently full.

A week of themed wellbeing activities helped young people explore emotions, build confidence, and develop emotional regulation skills. Activities included crafts, nature walk & picnic, outdoor games, big art day, and a celebration party. We will share 2027 plan on our Facebook nearer the time.

Crafts & Enterprise Group

From 1st October 2026, Thursdays 5.30-7.30pm

Our new Crafts Enterprise Group begins the first week of October and we'll be making soaps, candles, ceramics, and box frames to sell at our Christmas Event. Find out more about signing up on our Facebook.

Weekend Gardening

Saturdays, various time slots are bookable

Come and get your hands in the soil in our community garden. Open to anyone - no experience needed, just a willingness to get stuck in. Book in advance by using the contact form or message us on Facebook.
