Burnhill’s kids shone this summer

Burnhill’s summer was full of sunshine, a little bit of rain and a whole lot of fun! When the kids are out of school, we make sure there are fun things for them to do at The High Backs. We ran the Inside Out Summer Camp, and a Summer Lunch Club for the kids. And the adults had time for themselves with our coffee afternoons, knitting group, our women’s group Soulful Seasons, and the ever-popular Men’s group: Burnhill Mending Minds. We think the kids really shone this summer, read more about what they got up to.

Our Inside Out Summer Camp was for ages 10+ and took place from 13th–17th July.

Our week‑long wellbeing camp was packed with themed activities including big art projects, outdoor games, a nature walk and picnic, crafts, and a celebration party. Our young people built confidence, learned emotional regulation skills, and made new friendships - all in a safe, supportive environment. We are really proud of how much they engaged with nature and talking about emotions, we definitely learned from them too.

Then our Summer Lunch Club ran every Monday and Friday from 20th July until the schools returned. Our Lunch Club provided free nutritious meals for families alongside crafts, games, and outdoor play. This was a lifeline for many families and created a relaxed, social space for parents, carers, and children. We finished off our summer with a summer party. The surprise party guests were some adorable goats and ponies, a hit with people of every age.

Finally, our school supplies provision returned this summer where we had the essentials to give to families. All of these fantastic summer activities were made possible by the generosity of Cash for kids, Arnold Clark funding and McConnells construction. Thank you to these fantastic funders, you have made the world of difference and helped our kids shine this summer. Thank you too to all our volunteers who help make everything run at The High Backs.
